How does print on plastic cards work?
The principle of the printing method is similar for all card printers: the plastic card and the color
ribbon are moving together to pass the thermal printhead. The colour is transfered from the ribbon to the card by the heat-impulses
from the printhead. The standard
resolution for card printing is 300 dpi (300 dots per inch or 12 dots per mm).

How does retransfer print (e.g. Fargo HDP series) work?
The retransfer method also uses the thermal procedure. In contrary to the thermal
sublimation, with the retransfer method images are printed onto the underside of a film. In a second step the printed film is fused flush to the card.
Advantages of the retransfer procedure are the possibility of edge-to-edge printing and printing on irregular card surfaces e.g. on smart cards. YouCard provides the HDP series by Fargo;
the best retransfer card printer available in the market.

How are card printers run?
All card printers offered by YouCard come with up-to-date MS Windows
drivers. So printing can be done from all Windows based programs (e.g. MS Word,
Corel, Photoshop...).
Plastic cards can also be designed, personalized and printed with individual
card designing software solutions.
Card printers from YouCard can also be run with internal programming languages
without the use of drivers and software solutions.

Which software solutions does YouCard offer for card printing?
YouCard provides the standardized card designing software CardFive. With this
easy-to-use software, cards can be variously designed:
- compatible to all usual diagram files
- images can be generated from webcam movies and directly printed onto the card
(for fast photo personalization)
- card numbering with counters
- copy in all TrueType fonts
- all usual card coding (bar codes, magnetic stripes, Smartchip)
- optional data base with internal data base for layouts and ODBC driver, with
which all usual data base formats can be addressed

Which plastic cards does YouCard provide?
YouCard always offers the suitable plastic cards solution for your requirements.
All types of card printers are based on ISO standard defined plastic cards.
The ISO card measurements are exactly 85.72 x 54.04 mm with 0.76 mm thickness. The material
is high gloss laminated PVC on both sides.
Beside special solutions YouCard supplies the following cards:
- blanco white and dual-sided dyed
- with pre-print in offset, digital and silkscreening
- with magnetic stripes
- with contact chips (e.g. i²C-Bus, SLE series)

What is the possible thickness for plastic cards to be printed?
The applicable card thickness depends on the used printer system. Usually cards with
approx. 0.30 - 1.50 mm thickness can be printed.

Which card materials can be printed with card printers?
First you need to differentiate between the coloured thermal sublimation printing
and the monochrome (single-coloured) thermal transfer printing.
In the thermal sublimation printing only dual-sided high gloss laminated PVC
plastic cards and few composite materials (polyester core with PVC laminate)
in high quality are printable.
For thermal transfer print different card materials are applicable, e.g.:
- laminated and non-laminated PVC plastic cards and composite materials
- ABS cards
- PE cards
- various coated and uncoated paper and/or sticking cards

Which types of card coding are possible?
The different plastic cards can be coded with card printers as follows:
- all common bar codes and 2D-Codes are supported
- magnetic stripes LoCo (300 Oe) and HiCo (4000 Oe)
- contact smart cards (memory chips and Microcontroller)
- contactless (transponders) smart cards (e.g. Legic, Mifare, Hitag, i-code...)

How are card printers run in a network?
Card printers are standard Windows printers and are therefore operable in networks.
They are also configurable with print servers. Some newer models are also available
with optional Ethernet Interfaces.

Cost-effective network licenses are available for CardFive, which can be used
together parallel to a main license in the network.

How can plastic cards be printed with my own software solution?
All plastic cards are printable from all Windows supported programs using the
Windows printer drivers. Your software must have a print function.
If you intend to use your own data base formats for the card personalization,
we could examine the accessibility of the data base with ODBC and integration
with the card software.

What possibilities are there for upgrades for card printers?
Nearly all card printers from YouCard are upgradeable cost-effectively e.g. with
encoders for magnetic stripe and Smart cards (for contact and contactless chips).
Our technical support is fast and reliable in upgrading card printers.

What is a Scratch-off ribbon?
With the Scratch-off ribbon printed information can be hidden. So only the final
user of the card can scratch off the hidden area to access the information. A
well-known application is e.g. the Pre-paid calling card.

Which cleaning cycles are recommendable for card printer systems?
The cleansing intervals should at least be done after all 200 - 1,000 cards and as follows:
1. Cleaning card: Insert the cleaning card in the card feeder, remove the ribbon
and start the cleaning process from the printer driver.
2. Cleansing swabs: With a light pressure on the stem the enclosed cleansing
solution will flow to saturate the foam. Apply the foam to the print head gently
wiping in one direction several times.
3. Cleaning roller (only Zebra): Replace the sticky cleaning roller in the blue
cleaning cartouche with a new one.
4. Cleaning role (only Datacard): Replace the cleaning roller behind the card
feeder with a new one.

Which conditions does YouCard offer for testing?
In agreement with the customer, YouCard offers card printer systems for sale
with the option to return e.g. within fourteen days after purchase. If the printer
should not meet your expectations, we take it back and refund your payment.
Should parts of the printer and accessories be missing or defective, costs for
the replacement will be deducted from the refund accordingly. Opened materials
e.g. cards, ribbons, cleaning products etc. are not refundable.

What are the usual delivery times with YouCard?
Almost all articles are available from stock. YouCard cooperates with the very
reliable package dispatcher UPS. Thus for orders placed before 3.30 p.m. products can usually be delivered within 1-2 working-days. Day-to-day delivery is guaranteed
for express orders.

Which forms of payment are possible?
For new customers YouCard delivers by payment in advance, cash on delivery and VISA
credit card account. Following orders can be paid by invoice.

Does Youcard provide used card printers?
YouCard regularly offers used card printers for sale. These almost
new printers were usually only used for presentations and testing purposes. The printers have
printed a few hundred cards and come with a guarantee from YouCard. So there is no risk in
buying our used devices.
