The G7 represents the alliance of the world’s seven leading industrialized nations and democracies. At their annual summit meetings, heads of state and government coordinate joint positions on global political issues. The venue for the 2022 G7 Summit was Schloss Elmau in Bavaria, Germany.
The Garmisch-Partenkirchen District Office was responsible for non-police hazard prevention during the G7 Summit. Employees of the district office, along with additional emergency personnel, were stationed in a dedicated operations center.
A professional access control solution was required to ensure the security of the building and everyone working within it.
Project Requirements
Due to the short preparation time, the Garmisch-Partenkirchen District Office was looking for a flexible access control solution that could be implemented without major renovations.
This solution should also include access badges that are printed and issued directly on site.
The primary goal was to use the envisioned solution to prevent unauthorized access to the building by third parties. The badges had to be provided with an EAN code and a photo of the respective person so that check-in could be carried out via barcode scan.
A security service was commissioned to carry out the entry controls. The access control had to be mobile, flexible, and intuitive to use.

The Solution
In order to be able to print ID cards in-house, the district office was initially equipped with a full-fledged card printing system. This consisted of the HID FARGO HDP5000 retransfer card printer, blank plastic cards, and design software.
For card design, the decision was made to use the YouChip printing and encoding software. Using software, the district office was able to design its own ID card layout, which included, among other things, an EAN code and a photo of each participant.
The finished ID card formed the basis for visitor management and access control. With the customized YouEvent visitor management software, a solution was chosen that optimally met the requirements: flexible, mobile, and convenient ID management for individuals.
QR code scanners from Metapace enabled the EAN code on the access cards to be read. A digital check-in was necessary to register each participant via software and verify their identity via facial recognition. Only previously registered individuals were granted access to the building.
