MIFARE DESFire EV3 Chip Card

The contactless MIFARE DESFire EV3 IC is ideal for system operators and developers building reliable, interoperable, and scalable solutions. The third generation of the industry-leading MIFARE DESFire family offers superior performance, security, and improved support for multiple applications.

The MIFARE DESFire EV3 chip card offers several advantages for the end user. Cardholders can use the card for multiple applications in parallel, such as ticketing, student ID, access control, or loyalty programs. The new chip is compatible with the cloud-based MIFARE 2GO mobile ticketing service.

System providers can now use third-party applications via the innovative MIsmartApp function without having to share the master key. The number of applications is limited only by the available memory.

Compared to the previous version, the DESFire EV3 offers several new features. A Transaction Timer allows you to specify a maximum duration per transaction for each application. If the timer expires before a transaction is completed, the changes are reset and the current transaction is aborted. This function is designed to defend against man-in-middle attacks.

Another new feature of the EV3 is the new Secure Unique NFC (SUN) security function. The SUN function ensures that a unique code is generated each time the chip is read, ensuring the confidentiality and integrity of the data transmission.

The MIFARE DESFire EV3 is also compatible with the new cloud-based service MIFARE 2GO from NXP. This service manages digital credentials and makes them accessible and usable for all NFC-enabled devices such as smart cards, smartphones, tags, and wearables. With the right infrastructure, MIFARE 2GO users can independently load new functions onto their card, smartphone, or other wearables.
